Minnesota Energy Consortium (MEC)

History

The Minnesota Energy Consortium was formed in 2005 when a group of energy industry leaders and college partners from Minnesota State came together to analyze the projected worker shortages. The collaboration and community continue this work today, addressing the ever-changing work landscape in the energy sector.

Today, our focus is set on three key areas:

  • Member and Professional Development
  • Career Awareness and Engagement
  • Workforce Training and Education

With the support of the Center for Energy Workforce Development, we strive to identify pathways and projects to advance equity and participation in our workforce.

The partnership is essential to our work. Leaders from Xcel Energy, Minnesota Power, Great River Energy, Otter Tail Power Company, Minnesota Rural Electric Association, rural electric cooperatives, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Minnesota Department of Commerce, and many independent company representatives have been key participants in guiding the work of the MEC
